Up to this section, we have been working at 4/4. From now on, we shall go on to other measures. There is a method of Bob Moses’s which I have found extremely useful for an understanding of this kind of measures: Bob Moses called it “reference points”. And music is full of them. I think it is basic to understand where these points are, so as to understand and assimilate the music that we are playing. Here we are working with a 7/8, as I already commented in exercise 273. It’s essential that the hi-hat should keep a constant pulsation so the groove doesn’t get lost.
