I’d like to draw your attention to the hi-hat, which is a very important little instrument. For me, these two are the opposites, the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega, the very high, the very quiet, and the very deep, the very loud. The two good make a very good balance. There’s a nice contrast in the sound. Mostly in swing drumming, the hi-hat keeps the drum balanced and accentuates the two and four. One, two, three, four… These days very good drummers begin to use the hi-hat very expressively, in interesting parts of the measure. So, I show a little bit of more interesting hi-hat playing and we’ll have some exercises for the forgotten foot. One, two, three, four……..
