First, Horacio shows you what is the Cáscara and how to play it with the right hand and the Left hand in the Hihat, and he explains that these are the first steps to introduce the 4th element (BassDrum). Here you have the 2nd combination.
The second example is going to be the “Cáscara” but divided in two sections, if you can call that way, the right hand and the left hand. The left hand is going to play like the ghost notes, they are just going to fill the holes of the Cáscara with the right hand. And sounds like this. 1, 2, 3, 4… So, this past two examples were played on the 2/3 Clave. This rhythm can be, as all the other Afro-Cuban rhythms, 2/3 or 3/2, I mean they can start on the side of the three of the clave or on the side of two. So we have to practice them starting from both places.
